Police arrest man who shouted racial slur at ‘TODAY’ co-anchor Craig Melvin

New York City police have taken a man into custody after he shouted a racial slur at “TODAY” co-anchor Craig Melvin near Studio 1A, the morning show’s broadcast headquarters at Rockefeller Plaza, multiple people familiar with the matter said.

A spokesperson for the New York Police Department confirmed that one person was in custody but did not confirm the individual’s identity. A preliminary search did not turn up any weapons on the person, according to a separate official.

No injuries were reported, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Melvin, 47, joined the “TODAY” show in 2018. He was named co-anchor last year, serving alongside Savannah Guthrie.

NBC News Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
